Christopher, I have both an 80's DE and one purchased in 2017 and so far no issues. I have to admit my early 90's model is a 'Safe Queen" but I shoot the newer one with everything from Underwood, DoubleTap, Bufallo Bore to Wimp Target load and it is reliable and extremely accurate.

Its a 1911 so no handling issues I know the early ones had fram cracking from "full bore " 10 mm loads these issues have been corrected in the new delta elites but I would still reserve the use of super heavy 10mm loads like the Buffalo Bore to defense situations and not for a everyday diet

This is a modern Generation Delta David. It is a very accurate pistol with a durable FDE finish. I own a 1980's era Delta that I keep as a safe queen so I bought a stainless Delta to shoot. they were accurate back then and are accurate now. The pistol will surprise you with the accuracy and power of the 10mm with the right loads.

This is a nice looking gun. The Delta Elite has been around for a long time and Colt has the bugs worked out. The finish should last a long time with normal use. It shoots as well as a 1911 with a little more recoil due to the power of the 10mm. Colt's hold there value well because they are a quality firearm.

Is the mainspring housing metal or delrin (plastic).

Yes it is plastic Kevin. They do sell stainless replacement though

Plastic. It's easy to replace with a steel one and if you shoot it a lot and disassemble it a lot to deep clean it the metal pin that holds it tends to shear a little plastic every time you knock it in and out so it will wear. if you shoot very little and don't disassemble the gun it won't be a problem.

It's actually made of Nylon. All nylons are plastic, not all plastics are nylon. I've had mine for maybe 9 months, and only 500 rounds through it. No issues thus far. Just fired and then cleaned it the other day. Plastic main spring housing looks fine. I didn't see any cracks starting. Actually, no wear to speak of at all on it. I don't see it becoming an issue anytime real soon... As as has been stated, you can replace it very inexpensively with a metal one to add a bit of counter weight to lessen recoil. For the record, this is a low stress area on the firearm.

Colt quality. Good out of box trigger. I like the FDE finish in a 1911 format.Good addition to my Colt collection. I have some interesting custom ideas for this one.

Best price around for this gun. Total transaction took less that 5 minutes. Fast shipping on a holiday weekend. Will deffinetly use Buds again. As far as the gun goes ni complaints other than a somewhat loose trigger that rattles. Easy fix.

Buds was great to work with as was Bubbas Gun Sales for transfer. The Colt locks up tight and fired over 300 rounds without one issue. The 3 dot sights are ok, but at least they are Novak. Also fired actual 10mm cartridges with no signs of case bulge as the barrel provides full support. Match barrel and accurate. Great gun!
