Kelly, My 686-6 has MIM trigger and hammer. The gun is warranted for life. Can swap out the trigger to old style case hardened trigger, but not the hammer. S&W MIM parts show no more of a failure rate than case hardened non-MIM parts.
Kelly, I am 99% sure MIM Parts are used Sir. S&W still have MIM parts sentt to their heat treat facility for hardening and in the case of hammers and triggers, case hardening. I would get a definitive answer from Smith and Wesson Customer Service at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-6:00PM Eastern Time.

Kelly, All the newer Smith & Wesson revolvers, and those with the on-board lock are all running MIM triggers and hammers. The last case hardened triggers and hammers ended in 1997.
