Great rifle, have had no issues yet. The scope isn't the greatest but it works. Accurate as well considering the scope.

This gun is so aimable it is un real and sub MOA right out of the box, the Weaver scope in 3 to 9 is a really good lower end scope. I will be shooting this gun a lot!

Savage Axis has much improved trigger. However, rifle came with a missing scope ring screw and stripped thread where screw was missing. Called Savage and have new rings on the way. Good plinking rifle for the price.

I am giving this rifle 5 stars because it is such a good deal. Otherwise it would be 4 stars . After I sighted in, and became used to the trigger, it shot a very tight group. I was shooting subsonic ammo at 50 yards and getting a 1/4 inch group. I am not a marksman, but just a regular good shot. The trigger is said to be heavy, but i didn't think so.
The magazine is probably the most problematic, noted by other reviewers. It fell out while is was working the bolt while sighting in. I found out though when you seat the clip into the gun, if you push both at the front(and hear a click), then push in at the rear of the clip it clicks again. If you remember to do this, it won't fall out. A design issue, certainly, but something that can be worked around.
.it came with a weaver 3-9 scope. No issues with mounting or the scope.

Another very accurate rifle from savage added to the collection. Was a little skeptical about this particular model because of all the reviews about the magazine and the trigger, but savage has made a huge improvement on the magazine with the new release clip. The trigger is a little lighter than all the reviews I seen coming in at 4.9lb average. All in all it is an amazing rifle for the price.

Excellent entry level .223. Gave it 4 stars for that reason. Fit and finish are what you would expect from Savage. The scope optics are ok and tough to get really clear. The gun is dead accurate up to the 150yds we shoot. The magazine can sometimes fail to feed. Seems the rounds get cocked on the magazine and stop feeding. Not a huge issue if you play attention when you load it. Buds was great!

Once I got it on paper is was extremely accurate. It was shooting hitting to the right out of the box. Had no misfires or jams. The weaver scope that came with it was crystal clear and easy to get on target. I had no issues with the trigger at all. It was a smooth clean break every time. The magazine that came with the rifle holds 5 rounds without an issue. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed shooting a good rifle until today...my first day out with my new Savage 223.

This is a really nice rifle and the scope is crystal clear. I have a Mossberg as well and have to say this is 10X better than the Mossberg not that saying that means much! Loading the magazine is pretty easy once you get the hang of it and you can order more mags to increase capability. The recoil is very low and easy managed. Follow up shots were easy to keep on target and we were able to tear doubles through about the same hole. Fitting the magazine can take a little patience but once you understand how it becomes easy. Overall I rate this rifle very high and with the included scope it was on target right out of the box.

My first order from Bud's. Great price and service. I live in a very rural area or it would have been less time. I really like the gun/scope package. Need to spend more time shooting the gun to get used to the heavy trigger. Nice and crisp but much heavier than I expected. Will definitely buy from Bud's again.

Very nice gun and very happy with it. I sighted in at 50 and got 3/8 inch groups and went out to 100 and shot 2 inches above the bullseye which is where I wanted it. Plus it punched rite through a 3/8 inch mild steel plate at 20 yards awsome thanks buds

This gun has alot of negative views on it. #1 main negative comments on it are the stock. I have held many of the savage axis/edges. just to justify that they are all made similar. And in my oppinion the stock is fine. It is very light. Nice to carry around. But probably not the best benchrest option. The wooden Boyds is a good upgrade, but i perfer the light synthetic.. #2 most negative comment is the trigger. It is a little sloppy. and was really heavy out the box. So what did i do? YOUTUBE. A trip to the hardware store and 10 minutes, and that baby is pulling right under 3 lbs. Now the good things about this gun is the incredible accuracy that comes from all Savage guns. First ammo i tested was (cheap) Remington UMC 45 grain HP. I was shooting 3/4 moa @ 100 yds. with those. Tried out some heavier bullets and went with Remington Hog Hammer with 62 grain Barnes TSX. I was shooting 1/2- 3/4 moa mag after mag with those. Then i had to test the garbage ammo. Up next was Tulammo. 55g grain fmj. Surprisingly I shot 2 moa @ 100 yards with cheap russian ammo. You dont get much better with that. The cheap bushnell scope wasnt bad either. Not the clearest but its spot on.

Today was the first chance I had to shoot the Savage Axis .223 and really like the rifle. After securing the mounts & scope, it took about 6 rounds to get on target at about 85 yards. Right now I have no access to a longer gun range. The rifle shoots great but I'm doing a trigger job on it very soon….this rifle deserves a less heavy trigger. The Bushnell 3-9x 40 scope is ok but not the greatest. However it seems to hold target very well, the adjustments are good and after ten rounds it was settled in. Maybe later I'll add a Nikon or Leupold scope, maybe not. All in all, this rifle is a great buy. As always, Buds service is top-notch.

Picked up the rifle and my FFL was shocked at the price I paid for this Savage. Awesome rifle as my first bolt action 223. Waiting for this crappy weather to break so I could take it to the range. Thank you Bud's for your great service I'm sure it won't be my last purchase.

The factory scope was not zeroed in like they claim. After wasting several rounds I finally it on paper at 50 yards. When I moved to 100 yards it was like staring all over again. A certain amount of this can be blamed on the shooter but I've got other guns that I hit consistently at 100 yards. I tried a different scope and after wasting a couple of hundred rounds I give up on this.
